This delicious carrot shrugs aside heavy soil, and forms beautiful 15-20cm (6-8") long, fine-grained roots that are bright orange throughout with no cores. The carrots are cylindrical, uniform, crisp, and sweet, with relatively small tops. 75 days, OP.
How to Grow Carrots
Timing: Direct sow from April to mid-July at 3-week intervals for a longer harvest window.
Seeding: Dig soil deeply. Water deeply prior to planting. The trick is to keep the soil surface damp during the long germination period (14 to 21 days). Direct sow the tiny seeds 5mm (¼") deep and lightly firm the soil. Make sure the seeds are only just buried, and water regularly to maintain moist soil during germination. Pelleted carrot seeds require even more moisture during this period.
Growing: Carrots prefer a rich, well-drained, and deeply cultivated bed. The ideal pH range is 6.0 to 6.8. Thin carrot seedlings are 2cm (1") tall. Use wider spacing for larger carrots.
Seed Specs: Canada No. 1 germination standard: 60% Usual seed life: 3 years.
