How to grow Cucumbers
Timing: Direct-seed or transplant. All types need really warm soil to germinate. If direct-seeding on the coast, wait until early to mid-June. If the weather turns cool and rainy after planting, you might need to re-seed. Or start transplants in individual pots 3-4 weeks before seeing out when the weather is warm.
Seeding: Sow around 2cm (1") deep, and keep moist.
Growing: Cucumbers love warm soil so use plastic mulch or a floating row cover to heat things up in the spring. Warm, well-drained soil is essential. Add dolomite lime and compost or well-rotted manure to the bed and ½ to 1 cup of balanced organic fertilizer mixed into the soil beneath each transplant.
Seed Specs: Canada No. 1 germination standard: 80% Usual seed life: 3 years.
